Suburban Christian Church Louisville, Kentucky
Serving Christ since 1956

Our Mission

The mission of Suburban Christian Church is to lead those who are away from Christ
to become devoted followers of Christ and to glorify His name in all that we do.

Our Vision

Our vision is to provide spiritual leadership through fellowship and worship directed toward
Christian living and to provide a model for community living and responsibility.

You may already be a "follower of Christ" at heart if you believe:

1. That God created the universe, and God loves you and all of creation.

2. That Jesus is the Son of God and your Lord and Savior. God chose to express His love for us through
His Son so that we might find forgiveness, grace and salvation.

3. The Bible is God's Word and our Guide for our walk of faith.

Basic Beliefs of the
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

1. God's Word, the Bible is Our only Rule And Guide.

2. Christ alone is our Lord and Saviour and head of the Church. Through the Church His spirit inspires us in faith, fellowship, and Christian growth.

3. The Unity Of All Christians In Christ.

4. The two Institutions Of Our Lord.

A. Baptism by immersion is a symbol of the burial of the old self and the birth of the new life that comes to one who accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour.

B. Observance of the Lord's Supper is an act of remembrance of the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is a time when the participant not only examines himself in light of Christian teachings but also receives spiritual strength and encouragement. We share in communion every Sunday and it is open to all followers of Jesus the Christ.

Things We Do as a Church

1. We challenge individuals to study the Bible and discover what the Will of God is for your own life.

2. Feeling that Peter's confession of faith, "You are the Christ, the son of the living God," meets the needs of the simplest person as well as the profound scholar, we do not require submission to creeds nor vote upon admitting new members.

3. We observe two sacraments instituted by our Lord.

A. In keeping with Christ's teachings and example we feel that a confession of faith should precede baptism by immersion.

B. We observe the Lord's Supper weekly as an act of thanksgiving and dedication to God.

4. Members are received by:

A. Confession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour according to the New Testament practice and baptism by immersion following example of our Lord.

B. If you are a member of another denomination, your statement of transfer is all that is required and the minister will be happy to discuss with you the differences in baptism, communion and other matters.

5. Through our Ministry of Friendship shared with other congregations of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we seek to fulfill the vast responsibilities of the church to preach, teach and minister to all people.

How To Join Suburban Christian Church

1. Contact Pastor Ed to learn which way is best for you to join.

2. Attend one of the worship services and come to the front when Pastor Ed gives the invitation.

A. If you have never been Baptized Pastor Ed will asked you to repeat the basic confession of faith "I believe that Jesus is the Christ, The Son of the living God, and my Lord and Savior." The next Sunday you will be baptized at the beginning of the worship service.

B. If you are a member of another church and wish to unite with Suburban Christian Church you will be ask to simply affirm your belief in Jesus the Christ. You will then be offered the right hand of Christian Fellowship.

EXPLANATION OF OUR SYMBOL

The symbol of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a red chalice bearing the cross of St. Andrew across the left side of the bowl. The chalice symbolizes the centrality of the Lord's Supper in the life and worship of the Disciples. Red is the color of Christ's blood and the color for evangelism. St Andrew, the national saint of Scotland, focuses attention on the Presbyterian roots of the Disciples.

Our GOALS

Our goal is to fulfill the Call of God to study, serve, and witness by example. To reach out to others in need in the community and share God's love.
